Job Description

The Data Analytics Intern will work with other members of our analytics team to expand and update HIP Consult’s repository of statistics information, analytics knowledge and modeling capabilities. As a new department within HIP Consult, the analytics team applies data analytics methodologies to provide innovative insights to clients. Through this internship, you will have the opportunity to research, develop and strengthen analytical and predictive models and broaden your perspective on international development & infrastructure issues by working directly with consultants in the emerging markets field.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on analytics and modeling techniques and their potential applications in developing markets

  • Aggregate high-quality data for predictive models or other analyses

  • Clean and preprocess data

  • Prepare exploratory data analyses and develop storylines

  • Build predictive models to understand complex issues faced by the ICT sector in emerging markets

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree with at least a year of experience with applied statistical or machine

    learning methodologies at the graduate level

  • Good academic standing in fields related to statistics, data science, computer science, mathematics, economics, geo-informatics or related field

  • Experience using statistical/machine Learning software (R, Python, SPSS, etc.)

  • Strong ability to convey advanced statistical concepts and ideas to a broader audience

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, PowerPoint and Excel

  • Diligent, thorough, and effective researcher

  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills

  • Detail oriented with a critical degree of accuracy regarding data entry and statistical analysis

  • Ability to adapt quickly to new challenges

  • Interest in international development, particularly technology and connectivity in emerging and developing markets

Preferred

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate program with a focus in statistics, mathematics or related field

  • Course work or hands on experience with machine learning, applied regression, data mining, data warehousing, and/or geospatial data analysis

  • Work experience with predictive or other statistical models

  • Academic or professional experience with business analytics

  • Experience working with and manipulating large datasets

Details

This position is available immediately. Interns can work up to 40 hours per week, although other arrangements can be discussed if a part-time position is preferred. Interns will be paid on an hourly basis.
